Tactics and Countertactics[]
They are relatively fast and mobile, putting them above and beyond the danger level of mundane wolves and bears, and their acidic bite can pierce and damage most armors. They have no writeup for webspinning, and are presumably a form of hunting spider; one that ambushes prey, rather than catching them in a web.
Dead Monster Bits[]
The acid glands in an Acid Spider's mandibles are a valuable alchemical ingredient, producing about 10-11 acid grenades. These do the same damage as the acid spider itself, usually around 1d-3 corrosion on contact.
Furthermore, the hefty DR 4 carapace of an acid spider could theoretically be used as limb and shoulder armor.
Fanon Tactics -- Dreadmont, and the Dread Mount of Dread Mountain[]
The acid spider is fast, strong, tough, and generally a pretty powerful combatant, but it's missing one thing--an insane, pint-sized mage who's looking to melt down foes and steal their trinkets. This spellcaster will need animal handling and animal spells to tame the acid spider, as well as some projectile spells (or throwable potions) for a well-balanced battle. A good fight with Dreadmont the wizard should involve the PCs managing to slow down his skirmish by attacking the beast's legs, or getting a few lucky hits onto the mage himself. If Dreadmont is hit, he may try scurrying away on his mount, or spiking a potion of smokescreen onto the ground and rushing to whatever hidey-hole he can find. Dreadmont isn't always slain the first time around, but it should be a memorable, unique battle.
