The Affliction (advantage) is arguable one of the most diverse in the game and its range is best demonstrated by the examples given in GURPS Horror and Powers.

Note that some of the same named Afflictions have different point totals and come from different books. GMs might want to have it noted where the Affliction is coming from like Sleep (Affliction, Horror p12) [47] vs Sleep (Affliction, Powers p143) [50]

Afflictions with [x]+[y] have two components. For example, Gaudivore has Afflictions+Leach while Horrifying Window has two Afflictions components. This means you can have an Afflictions that can do damage.

Diseases[]

GURPS Zombies gives two examples of how to model diseases as afflictions. The only issue is there are no models of ingested diseases (like Cholera), diseases that are blood born (like Malaria), or diseases that combine two forms of transition such as contact and blood born (like Hepatitis A, B, and C) or are a mixture of different diseases (Black Death).

More Potent Afflictions[]

"Afflictions can come in higher levels, giving -1 to resist per level past the first. Don’t simply multiply cost by level, though! Apply the parenthetical modifiers above to the 10 points/level for Affliction."[3]

  • Leprous Touch 2 [47] (not [48]) makes the resistance roll HT-1.
  • Memory Wipe 3 [114] means the victim resists with Will-2.
  • Nightmare 3 [54] means the victim resists with IQ-2 or Dreaming-2.
  • Paralyzing Touch 2 [51] (not [52]) makes the resistance roll HT-1.
