An arcology--a portmanteau of "architecture" and "ecology" is a TL8+ field of urban development, meant to create densely populated, ecologically sustainable cities. Arcologies are often portrayed as massive megastructures containing homes, shops, parks and farms. Arcologies in THS are particularly common in southern China and Taiwan, representing the cutting edge of Fifth Wave industry, where businessfolk sport the newest brain implants and nanomods.[1]

History[]

Some of the earliest pseudo-arcologies were mega-malls--containing an entire commercial district in a single structure. Some places, like the long-demolished Kowloon Walled City, were a basal form of arcology, with high density living but without proper logistic support, resulting in countless electrical, plumbing, and waste management issues.

The first "official" arcology seems to be Green Dragon, which was built circa 2020s.

Adventuring[]

Medieval adventurers sometimes find an old castle and renovate it with their allies, bringing an entire faction under the same roof. This is the hard scifi equivalent--hardscrabbling wanderers putting their skills together to get the water and power running, all while fighting off corporate-mercenary incursions and mutant animals.
