It was added to Damage Resistance page 14 of GURPS Horror. It is the inverse of Limited in that instead of specifying a category of things DR only works against, it specifies a specific thing it does not work against. Comparison by category:

  • -15% instead of -20% for Very Common
    • (same value as Directional: Front or Partial: Legs or Partial: Arms)
  • -10% instead of -40% for Common
    • (same value as Directional: back/left/right/top/underside or Partial: Extremities or Partial: Hands / Partial: Feet / Partial: 1 arm / Partial: 1 leg)
  • -5% instead of -60% for Occasional
    • same value as Partial: Jaw or Partial: Nose
  • Quirk instead of -80% for Rare (same value as Partial: 1 hand / Partial: 1 foot)
    • note: one could take "Temporary Disadvantage: Quirk" on Switchable DR but note that this could never actually save points alone if you had DR20[100] because TD does not allow saving more than 80% the value of a disadvantage.
      • This could however be useful if paired with some other limitation. For example "Temporary Disadvantage: Two Quirks" would be a -2% limitation and could save up to 1.6 points, enough to function like a -1% discount on a 100-point ability. Due to the rounding-down it only really makes sense to take the "Two Quirks" limitation on the last 50 points of your DR though)

These two versions have entirely different values. Regrowth's applies to Rare/Occasional/Common/Very Common while DR's only applies to Occasional, Common or Very Common.

Page 18 of GURPS Horror also lists it as a limitation for Regeneration, with numbers comparable to Regrowth. Page 53 uses the example "Regeneration (Bane, Silver)"
