"Being a good soldier comes down to one thing. To one single question: What are you prepared to sacrifice? When they came to me with the nanosuit, I sacrificed Laurence Barnes, the man I was, to become Prophet. When my own flesh and blood held me back, I sacrificed that too. Replaced it, like a spare part. Victory costs. Every time, you pay a little more. I saw a glimpse of what's coming and there was nothing left of me to stop it. When the greatest combat machine fails... what do we do then? What do I do?" -- Laurence "Prophet" Barnes, Crysis 3
Battlesuits (sometimes called power armor) are a form of powered, ultra-tech armor or equipment worn upon the body, often used to enhance the strength of the wearer. While not every powered suit is a battlesuit, every battlesuit is a powered suit.
Some battlesuits, particularly early models, require the Battlesuit skill to be operated effectively, similar to using a weapon or vehicular skill.
Battlesuits vary from Mecha in that they are relatively small, fitting upon a single pilot's body or, in cases of partial suits, part of the body, such as mechanical legs. Skeletal or partial suits (often designed more for utility than protection) are called exoskeletons.
Use of Battlesuits[]
It is normal when first piloting a Prawn suit to feel a sense of limitless power. Prawn operators receive weeks of training to counteract this phenomenon. You will have to make do with self-discipline. -- PDA disclaimer, Subnautica
Mobile Heavy Weapons[]
One of the more immediate uses for battlesuits is to enhance the strength and speed of the soldier, which can allow an ordinary fighter to carry heavy weapons (such as heavy machine guns, mortars, and rocket launchers) at full speed, supporting their squad at every foothold.
Examples[]
- The Spartan armor from HALO is a battlesuit, as well as its variations.
- The Nanosuit from the Crysis series is an example of a non-rigid battlesuit, made primarily of flexible, myomere/muscle-like fibers.
- Battlesuits are a staple of Fallout series, especially with the Brotherhood of Steel. These occasionally have enough room for the pilot to wear armor under the suit, adding additional protection.
