These are variants for the beam weapons presented in GURPS Spaceships.
Semi-Rapid Fire[]
There's design space between the standard beam weapon and the rapid fire beam weapon (GURPS Spaceships p. 28); which for want of a better term I will call 'semi-rapid fire'.
A semi-rapid fire beam has an output one step lower on the Beam Damage & Range Table (Gurps Spaceships p. 67): for example, 3 MJ instead of 10 MJ.
Similarly, a semi-very-rapid-fire beam has an output three steps lower on the table.
The new beam types have increased rate of fire as follows:
| Turns | 20-second | 1-minute | 3-minutes | 10-minutes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semi-Rapid Fire Beam | 3 | 10 | 30 | 100 |
| Improved Semi-Rapid Fire Beam | 6 | 20 | 60 | 200 |
| Semi-Very-Rapid Fire Beam | 30 | 100 | 300 | 1,000 |
| Improved Semi-Very--Rapid Fire Beam | 60 | 200 | 600 | 2,000 |
Intermediate Beam Weapons[]
Since a system of intermediate SM has twice the normal mass, a weapon battery may have twice the number of beam weapons.
Alternatively, you can double the RoF of an intermediate SM beam weapon (representing mass devoted to cooling system and energy banks).
