One of the largest biotechnology firms in the world, a transnational corporation and one of the "big two" along with Xiao Chu. It started in 2018 as an "offshore" genetic engineering lab, funded by a Turkish millionaire and

Boardroom and Curia Stats[]

From Boardroom and Curia, p.28

Mission Statement:[]

Biotech Euphrates is committed to retaining a leading position in the biotechnology market – in terms of both sales and technological sophistication – by any legal means. Structurally, the organization has come a long way from being the brainchild of an eccentric plutocrat. A complicated board of directors delegates power to local administrators, who are given varying degrees of independence proportionate to their perceived importance to the company’s future.

  • Members: 200,000
  • Wealth: Very Wealthy
  • Contacts: Bioengineering-21 [4]; Business skills-15 [10]
  • Member Traits: None
  • Notable Resources: In addition to its semi-ceremonial “headquarters” in Istanbul, Biotech Euphrates has dozens of facilities ranging from warehouses to office buildings to research vessels to small, rented orbital habitats. Many are staffed by a few tens of employees; only a minority are large enough to contain more than a few hundred.

Notes[]

The world of Transhuman Space is generally TL10 (and Biotech Euphrates’ costs are calculated on that basis), but biotechnology is at TL11. Biotech Euphrates makes use of intelligences in every form – human, bioroid, all flavors of AI, and so on – as allowed by the jurisdictions in which it operates.

History[]

  • 2018 -- established by a Turkish millionaire[1]
  • 2033 -- markets gene-enhanced dogs
  • 2040 -- Biotech Euphrates (and other biotech firms) begin offering genetic upgrades on a custom basis. They are expensive, and often not successful.
  • 2044 -- Biotech Euphrates (along with Xiao Chu and Colonial Genetics) begin bioengineering plants and animals for a "new Mars".
  • 2050 -- markets standardized genetic upgrade gene sequences that can create children with guaranteed improvements in longevity, appearance, health, and mental stability.
  • 2057 -- designs first Mars-adapted parahumans
  • 2067 -- B.E.'s offworld division create the first bioroids
  • 2069 -- markets biogenesis nanotech and customized bioroid designs; made-to-order workforces for orbital corporations
  • 2082 -- Biotech Euphrates and Xiao Chu try disputing the Bioroid Report, but eventually halt production of "controversial" models, and adding new regulations.[2]
  • 2089 -- contracted to grow a new Luna City (updating the old one) using nanotechnology.
  • 2100 -- goes utterly nuts and invents the alibanana, a bioengineered novelty fruit with a scaly, alligator-like skin.[3]

Major Creations[]

  • Bioroids
    • Felicia[4][5]
      • Rebranded as the "C-33 Lynx" after the the bioroid ban in 2082

      • Three-time Kyoto Cup winners
      • Thwarted coup attempt? (citation?)
    • Felicia II is a post-ban model[4][5]
    • Ishtar and its successor, Siduri[6]
    • Incubus, discontinued pleasure model[7][5]
  • Ziusara, enhanced parahuman model
  • First company to create K-10 intelligent dogs
    • but not the only manufacturer
  • Leading manufacturer of vat-grown fauxflesh, wood, and paper.
  • Second largest owner of GMO crops and animals
  • Stranger "living products" of the 2100s -- living rugs, living bathmats, and bio-buildings
  • The great Luna City rebuild of 2089
  • Represents the cutting edge of human genetic engineering (HuGE)
