Blocking Spells are spells that can be cast instantly as a defense against a physical attack or another spell.[1] You may only cast one Blocking spell per turn. Blocking spells automatically interrupt concentration on another spell.
FAQ[]
4.6.1 Since they are instantaneous, are Blocking spells exempt from rituals?
- Blocking spells have 0 casting time, but that doesn't exempt them from the ritual requirements for spells.
- If your level means you need to speak or gesture, and you can't, then you can't cast the spell.
- (Although at skill 9 or less, twice 0 is still 0, so there's no effect on time.)
- Assume the words and gestures are very brief; e.g., "Stop!" and a raised hand.

Blocking spells are the exception, yes.
- You can use them while running around with Missile spells . . .
- but doing so stunts the growth of your Missile spell for life.
