Crying out is an involuntary reaction a character makes if they fail a Will roll after suffering more than 1 HP (2+) of injury while having Low Pain Threshold.
Considerations[]
- there is no modification for having higher HP, though that could be a sensible houserule: for example requiring 4+ with 20+ HP, or 1+ with 5 or less HP.
- the -2 to IQ penalty caused by Shock (rule) would actually make it a Will-2 roll or worse, unless this is reduced via High HP and Shock
Other situations[]
Low-Tech 119 mentions under spikes/thorns that if barbs tear someone's skin, ANYONE makes a will roll to avoid crying out, at -4 for LPT and +3 for High Pain Threshold.
It mentions it would take "monstrous" thorns to even do 1d-5 cutting, implying that these are 1d-6 or worse and may not actually inflict injury at all.
There's no mention of an exception for having Injury Tolerance.
It mentions DR from clothing/armor would stop it, which seems to imply natural DR would not, though that could be an oversight.
