This skill requires specialization

Defaults: DX-5 or IQ-5

Driving/TL (DX/Average) is the skill to drive a specific type of ground vehicle. Requires specialization.

Specializations[]

Automobile[]

Defaults: Heavy Wheeled-2 or other Driving at -4.

This is one of the more common driving skills, particularly in the United States. High Automobile skill is useful for stunt drivers and action movie transporters, like in Transporter.

Construction Equipment[]

Default: other Driving at -5.

Use this skill to pilot and battle enemy killdozers.

Halftrack[]

Defaults: Tracked-2 or other Driving at -4.

The popularity of halftracks rose and fell around WWII into the Cold War era of the 1960s, due to their easy defaulting to Tracked and Driving skills. Over time the half-track was not strong enough for heavier armor, and it was not practical to put a track on lightly-armored vehicle. Halftracks still used however, primarily in the form of skitracks, which often used to propel secret agents up and down snowy hills.

Heavy Wheeled[]

Defaults: Automobile-2 or other Driving at -4.

Any vehicle three or more wheels that weighs 5 tons or more and does not move on rails. This skill is most commonly used for driving big rigs or city buses.

Hovercraft[]

Default: other Driving at -5.

Use this skill to pilot one of the most versatile vehicles--the hovercraft! Or any air-cushion vehicle.

Locomotive[]

Default: other Driving at -5.

Any vehicle that moves on conventional or maglev rails. Toot toot.

Mecha[]

Defaults: Battlesuit-3 or other Driving at -5.

Any kind of legged, bouncing, rolling, or slithering vehicle.

Motorcycle[]

Default: Bicycling-4

Any powered one- or two-wheeled vehicle, including those with sidecars. Large motorcycles often have a Minimum ST, just like a weapon.

Tracked[]

Defaults: Halftrack-2 or other Driving at -4.

Any vehicle with tracks. Tanks, APCs, snowcats, and OGREs.

Modifiers[]

  • -2 or more for bad driving conditions
  • -2 or more for a vehicle in bad repair
  • -2 for an unfamiliar control system (e.g., an automatic when you are used to a manual)
  • -4 or more for a vehicle of an unfamiliar type within your specialty (e.g., a race car when you are used to stock cars).
