GURPS Classic is the term used to refer to still in print books that use the pre-4e rules (basically anything before 2004). Because GURPS 3e came out in 1988 it tends to be the defacto term for any material before 2004 but this is an incorrect way of doing it.
GURPS Classic[]
- 1985: Man to Man: Fantasy Combat from GURPS, Orcslayer
- 1986: (1e)
- 1987: (2e)
- 1988: (3e); There was a 2e to 3e GURPS Update in 1989
- 1996: Basic Set (Third Edition) Revised; ("3.25e")
- 1996: GURPS Compendium I and II; (3.5e material)
- 2004: Basic Set (Third Edition) Revised 6th printing; Basic Set 4e, first printing February
Additional Information[]
- GURPS 3rd Edition – Bigger and Better (Roleplayer #12, December 1988)
Conversion[]
GURPS Update is a good beginning though there is also an art to doing conversion. For characters GURPS Character Sheet (Program) should be used so that point totals can be calculated. Any 1/2 point in a skill should be taken up to 1 to make sure the character actually has the skill; this will make the levels in those skills higher then they are in the book.
Notes[]
- Some 2e material still being worked on was published after 3e came out. Some of it had partial updates creating a sort of 2.x edition.
- Some material between 1988 and 1996 uses totally different point values then from what appears in the GURPS Compendium I making it incompatible with 3.5e, Two such books are Supers 1e (Classic) and Classic: Aliens.
