Mock up of GURPS Thundarr cover

In the year 1994, from out of space, comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the moon, unleashing cosmic destruction. Man's civilization is cast in ruin. Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn. A strange new world rises from the old. A world of savagery, super-science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice. With his companions, Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous sunsword, against the forces of evil. He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

GURPS Thundarr was a fan creation made by Greg DeAngelo based on the Thundarr the Barbarian cartoon but was lacking in much detail regarding the world of either 1994 or 3994.

While the Thundarr the Barbarian Wiki fleshes out the setting there are some quick observations to be made.

1994 Technology[]

The defense computer at the Alamo has disintegrators[1] and there were hibernation chambers available[2] indicating that there was some cutting edge TL9^ equipment developed before the disaster of 1994.

One practical issue was after 2000 years most clothing and structures would have disintegrated and yet people are wearing torn outfits from the 1990s and the buildings are in very good shape considering they have been decaying for 2000 years.[3]

Magic[]

Magic is per Ritual Magic rules with colleges skills of Black, Green, Red, Blue, and White Magic.

Statue of Liberty (Thundarr)

Animated Statue of Liberty using Flame Jet

As demonstrated by Gemini animating the Statue of Liberty[4] either some wizards have huge amounts of fatigue or the world has Unlimited Mana/Wild Mana/Raw Magic as this would require 81 energy to cast Animation (3 base x 3 for being metal and x 9 for being 151' tall) and 41 to maintain each minute and that is not counting the insanely powerful Flame Jet that its torch generated.[5]

Episodes and Places[]

Based on the locations either Thundarr and his friends back tracked a lot or the adventures didn't occur in the order they aired in. This table takes the episodes and tries to put them in a more logical geographical order.

Notes[]

  1. โ†‘ "Fortress of Fear" shows one of the few places magic didn't work and implies spell casting relies on some sort of energy storing mechanic
  2. โ†‘ "Last Train to Doomsday" is dependent on events in "Secret of the Black Pearl" and "Harvest of Doom"
