GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars (2006) is set in the Interstellar Wars period of the Traveller universe.
Setting[]
Interstellar Wars covers a period of about 200 years, from the beginning of the First Interstellar War (in 2114) to the collapse of the Vilani Imperium (in 2302). The default present is 2170.
Tech Levels[]
"TL10 represents the “Imperial standard” technology, the best available to the Imperium throughout the era. The Terran Confederation progresses from TL9 to TL11 during the course of the Interstellar Wars."[1]
Per the Traveller wiki TL conversion chart, this is Traveller TLs 10 though 20 in Quality of Life, 12+ in Transportation, and 10+ in military technology.
Technically "Imperial standard” technology in this era is a split technology: TL10 (Medicine and biology: early TL7)[2] The Vilani are the only race in this era specifically stated as having a divergent technology: TL(6+4); (Robotics TL(6+1)[3]
"However, at TL9 a number of superscience technologies appear and begin to advance. Interstellar Wars uses TL11+ to represent advanced levels of these superscience fields, layered over the stable TL9-10 situation."[4] This however is inconstant with how superscience is supposed to be handled in GURPS. It should be TL9^-10^ or just TL9^.
Being published in 2006 GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars has no knowledge of Mongoose Traveller (2007). Strangely, despite Traveller 5e (5.09) being published in 2015 it seems to have no knowledge of GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars.
Since Traveller 5e changed the Traveller TLs around slightly these TL conversions may no longer be entirely accurate.[5]
