Hags have become almost synonymous with witches in modern English, but in faerie lore they are anything but mortal. As a definite class of beings in their own right, hags represent the cycle of seasons and occasionally, nightmares (see the similar Night Hag subtype). In many European stories, hags are characters who test the hospitality of a person, particularly royalty. Generous and hospitable hosts are rewarded, and cold and uncharitable folks are cursed for their selfishness.

A classic hag tends to have debuffing spells that wither, confuse, and stun opponents. Those associated with winter have spells of withering both man and plant alike, causing darkness, summoning freezing winds and the like. Some evil-aligned hags have spells like Spoil Food and Destroy Water, because some evil fae just want to watch the world burn.
