Magic creates wonder and amazement. To this end that are certain aspects to High Fantasy:
- Magic is generally distributed unevenly concentrated in gods, other mythic beings, or in a handful of artifacts.
- It tends to be unpredictable even with people who use it regularly.
- It tends to be rare. In some settings it can be so rare that many may not even believe magic even exists.
Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are examples of High Fantasy and High Magic. Most mythology is also High Fantasy with that little magic in the hands of demigods, heroic warriors, powerful magicians, or magical artifacts.
The 1985 movie Flesh+Blood can be viewed through the lens of High Fantasy and Low Magic though nothing overtly magical occurs in it.
