Interceptor[]

This is the Interceptor from the TV show UFO. Officially, its main drive is an "atomic plasma" drive which is treated as a TL 8 nuclear thermal rocket. It uses this drive to maneuver into a position where it can launch its missile to intercept the UFOs trajectory. UFOs move at relativistic or FTL speeds, and the best that can be hoped for is a blanket nuclear detonation.

Launching from the moonbase to moon orbit requires 0.8 mps delta-V. A further 0.3 mps is required to leave orbit. The interceptor does this with its chemical rockets and 1 mps of delta-V; as this is stored in six fuel tanks, the performance is improved to 1.2 mps - just enough!

The Interceptor has an operational range of 0.001 AU using its atomic plasma drive. This includes acceleration to 0.9 mps (taking 5 hours), cruising for 28 hours, then decelerating (5 hours) to prepare for the return trip.

The missile launcher uses the optional oversized weapon battery and Bigger Missiles rules, resulting in a single 28cm missile.

The Interceptor has 1.6cm machineguns for point defense, or to strafe the lunar surface should the aliens land a UFO on the moon. Each gun has 200 ammo; a 1.6cm round deals 2d+2(2) d-Damage.

The Interceptor has a 10-ton (SM+4) hull of aluminium alloy and stainless steel. The crew consists of a single pilot.
