This is a list of some of the major categories and how they ideally should be used.
- Infinite Worlds - the alternate history realities. Used in a random generator.
- Alternate Realities - For pages that would otherwise fall under Infinite Worlds but are not intended to be part of the set of options for the random generator.
- {{SJG-forum-realities}}: topnote for realities that appeared on the GURPS part of Steve Jackson Games forums
- Dungeon Fantasy - material useable with either the GURPS Dungeon Fantasy series or the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game.
- Dungeon Fantasy RPG: material that is part of the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game
- Action Series
- Horror - Horror Genre. related categories.
- Campaigns: For ongoing or long term Campaigns
- Licensed: For properties officially Licensed for the GURPS system still in print. Unofficial conversions of other RPGs use {{Conversion}} header while Unofficial adaptions use {{Adaptation}}
- Settings: Homebrew settings using GURPS rules that are fleshed out
- Use {{SJG-forum-setting}} for settings that appeared on the GURPS part of Steve Jackson Games forums[note 1]
- If fleshed to where it is substantially longer than 10k characters (2,000 five letter words) it gets it own category. Ex: Five Earths, Paradise City, World of Kung-Fu.
The reason for this is three fold:
- it makes navigation a lot easier if the information is broken up into smaller portions
- it makes reading it on the smaller mobile devices less of a chore - a 12 page article on a 25" monitor will become nearly 24 pages long on a 13" assuming everything else is equal
- loading times - there are people with slow or metered internet - large pages take more time to load or burn through their set allotment. Having them as smaller bits allows them load just what they want without also downloading a large amount of stuff they don't.
- A quick rule of thumb is if you have to hit the page down key more than 5 times while the side bar is closed with the font size set to 16 while at 133% magnification on a 25" monitor to go from the top to the bottom of the article itself odds are it likely needs to be broken up. There are, of course, some exceptions: world background pages, large numbers of images, extremely detailed settings that can't logically be broken up into smaller pages - such as The SCP Foundation (even that has subpages and much of the space is devoted to links), etc
- Category:Locations: for islands, cities, and small settings that are limited in terms of time. For buildings use Category:Buildings
- For countries or worlds use Category:Historical Settings, Category:Fictional Settings, Category:Infinite Worlds, or Category:Other Planets
- These may be combined with or replaced by the {{City Statblock}} and {{Realm Statblock}}
- Hubs: While categories can be viewed as hubs there are certain pages that are used as hubs.
- Special:Categories: The main reference page for existing Categories.
Notes[]
- โ The line where something is {{SJG-forum-realities}} or {{SJG-forum-setting}} is blurry. A quick rule of thumb is if it takes two or more posts to describe than it gets {{SJG-forum-setting}}
