While kneeling, it takes 3 movement points to move one hex, rather than the usual 1. Kneeling is often used to either duck behind something low (such as behind cover) or under the line of sight of an ally (so they may fire projectiles without hitting you).
Movement[]
While kneeling, you can change to Standing with a Step instead of a change Posture.[1] If a character is pulled into kneeling by an outside force (such as being yanked with a hook attack), the victim cannot stand until they break free of the affecting force.[2]
Line of Sight[]
Kneeling makes a creature effectively -2 for the purposes of targeting. Huge creatures (SM+3) like elephants and triceratopses can block line of sight (of SM+0 characters) even while kneeling! See Combat Writ Large for more.
Ankle Holsters[]
While kneeling or crouching, there's no penalty to fast-draw from an ankle holster.[3]
Other Notes[]
Realistically, any character that expects to be kneeling behind cover a lot (such as tactical shooters) should wear knee protection. Anything from sports knee pads to battlesuits will work, as long as it protects the legs.
