Lynx Bulk Carrier[]

In the 32nd century, interstellar trade is dominated by tramp traders operating ships from 30 to 1,000 tons, which benefit from optimal hyperdrive performance. Bulk carriers like the Lynx meet the demand for large one-time shipments to aid colony development and spaceport construction, taking months to complete a trip. It holds 1,800 tons of bulk goods and 240 tons of livestock. The hangar bay holds 240 tons of smaller ships, predominantly Lifters for cargo handling; but also small fighters for defense.

The Lynx Bulk Carrier has an 7200-ton (SM+9.5) unstreamlined hull, 250 feet long. The front and aft use repurposed Panther hulls, but the ship loses any streamlining properties due to the central gantry that connects six cylindrical cargo pods, each with a capacity of three-hundred tonne canisters. The Lynx cannot make planetary landings nor dock with space stations, so relies on Lifters and other smaller craft to ferry cargo and crew. It has gravitic compensators ($7.2M).

The class 9 hyperdrive gives a maximum hyperspace journey of 3 light years, taking 7 days and consuming 81 tons (405 mps delta-V) of hydrogen. The Lynx relies on interstellar beacons to make multiple skips between systems.

Crew: Five control crew (captain, pilot, navigator, chief engineer, comms officer), four engine room technicians (habitat tech, hyperdrive mechanic, fusion drive mechanic, high-performance spaceship mechanic), two stewards, administrator, cargo officer; plus pilots for ships held in the hangar bay.
