Monster Classes (or simply Class) are categories for creatures, and work as a shorthand for what sort of abilities a creature might have--and what spells and abilities might work upon it.[1][2][3]

Classes[]

Class Description
Animal Available in Giant (huge) and Dire (mutant). Affected by Animal spells. Dire and Giant animals tend to be more ornery.
Construct Incorruptible magical servants and animated machines.
Demon Unholy entities from Heck. Can be Banished. Often affected by holy items and holy individuals.
Divine Servitor Extraplanar beings not from Heck. They often have important business to attend to, and important messages to deliver.
Elder Thing Unfathomably alien, often hostile to ordinary life. Technically not magical, but strange nonetheless.
Elemental Earth, wind, water, fire -- and many others. Primal spirits.
Faerie Free-willed living things with some fundamental magic to them.
Hybrid Animal hybrids. Most canons would probably lump in hybrids with Dire animals.
Mundane Most sapient creatures. Bandits, bugbears, dinomen and wildmen. Dragons are counted as Mundane in DFRPG, but that may be an oversight.
Plant Living things that grow in the ground, affected by Plant spells and Plant Empathy. Includes fungi!
Slime Diffuse, blobby things with seemingly no mind.
Spirit Incorporeal and certainly not living...
Undead A necromantically revived creature. Can be combined with other monster classes.
