Pull your punches is a combat option mentioned on page 122 (advanced combat) of 3e's basic set.

There is a similar rule in 4e, where you can use as little of your ST as you like, basically making "Variable" a built-in enhancement to one's ST-based attacks.

Something like Not Variable should be a Reciprocal Limitation for designing people who can't control the power of their hits and always have to hit at full power.

Or maybe some kind of skill roll to partially reduce power based on MoS.

"Pull your punches" is included under subduing a Foe on B401

Perks[]

Just Winged Him is a perk described:

effectively allows firearms to โ€œpull punchesโ€ as described on p. B401.

It actually functions differently though. The basic rule is:

choose to use any ST value less than your own when you strike with bare hands or a melee weapon, thrown weapon, bow, or sling

While lowering the ST value allows someone to lower the max damage they could inflict, this also requires lowering the minimum/average damage too.

JWH allows placing an upper limit WITHOUT lowering the minimum/average.
