A Quantaclysm is a reality quake so severe that it not only obliterates the worldline on which it takes place but throws Reality Shards to multitudes of other realties.

Contrast with Banestorms.

It leaves behind anomalous objects and memories called Reality Shards. Reality quakes start along Fracture Zones.

Possible Effects[]

  • Laws of nature and physics alter
  • Mana level drastically changes
  • Mammoth changes of, creation or, or obliteration of panteons
  • New stars and planets appear in the heavens without explanation

Examples[]

DC Comics[]

DC Comics has had many Reality Quakes since 1985 (most spanning its multiverse):

  • Crisis on Infinite Earths
  • Zero Hour
  • Infinite Crisis
  • Flashpoint
  • Convergence
  • The merging of the New Earth and Prime Earth Supermen
  • The Death Metal/Perpetua saga

Some DC events are similar to Reality Quakes but don't quite fit the definition:

Marvel Comics[]

  • The reality shifts in Into the Spiderverse (such as an item shimmering and switching into a similar item) are a more obvious version of a reality quake.

SCP Wiki[]

  • CK-class Reality Restructuring Scenario: The timeline of the SCP Wiki-verse is highly fluid, with some entire timelines being rebooted or crushed under new realities (see Quantaclysm). During truly apocalyptic scenarios, the SCP Foundation will willingly cause such a quantaclysm to "reset" a timeline before some irreparable event.
    • SCP-140/SCP-6140: SCP-140 was a reality distorter and when it was finally destroyed the Republic of Daevastan returned and it was revealed that SCP-140 was a fiction invented by Thomas Bruce, 6th Earl of Elgin that retroactively rewrote history creating a "fake" history from September 22nd, 1788 to the present.
    • SCP-579 + SCP-055
