Cost: -10 to -40 points
Restricted Diet is a mundane physical Disadvantage where you require a specialized food or fuel that is hard to come by.[1] GURPS is human-centered, so the default character is relatively omnivorous.
- Rare: -40 points
- Occasional: -30 points
- Common: -20 points
- Very Common: -10 points
Rarity | Cost | Examples |
---|---|---|
Rare | -40 | Dragon's blood, exotic nutrient mixture, weapons-grade uranium |
Occasional | -30 | Virgin's blood, rocket fuel, babies, fissionables |
Common | -20 | Human flesh, gasoline, liquid hydrogen |
Very Common | -10 | Fresh meat, any hydrocarbon fuel, electric batteries, fresh blood. |
Note that this disadvantage can model normal humans with chronic gastrointestinal disorders.
Limitations[]
Substitution (-50%): You can try to consume a food or fuel similar to the one you require. This requires a HT roll, and a failure means your HT attribute drops by one until you receive appropriate medical or mechanical attention. Critical failure can mean an incapacitating reaction--a severe immune response, engine failure, etc. [2]
Those without this limitation derive no sustenance and must still make the HT roll, with success being failure and failure being a critical failure.[2]
A player character or NPC will probably know this in advance.
