not to be confused with Hyperspectral Vision

Spectral Vision is an advantage designed on page 118 of Basic Set.

It is a modified version of 5 levels of Night Vision.

Net modifiers are +15% increasing it from [5] to [6] in value.

Design problems[]

  • no points were even saved for the temporary disadvantage, so it would make more sense to take it as a fulltime advantage to save 5 points
  • it has a Temporary Disadvantage limitation despite not being switchable (it is not possible to turn off unmodified night vision to give yourself vision penalties in darkness, should you desire that, without taking +10%)
  • there's nothing in the description to even indicate that the glow is meant to be temporary
  • "can see the Spectral Plane" being "Night Vision with the side effects that they see ghosts" would probably be more like See Invisible and Nightvision at Link+10% abilities
    • this description treats "see ghost" like a side effect when it is generally considered a BENEFIT (advantage) although switchable +10% would allow someone to stop seeing ghosts should they desire, so that's better

Affects Insubstantial is meant to apply things to insubstantial creatures which normally doesn't. It's not clear how that's meant to work for Night Vision.

Basic vision is essentially Not Blind [50] to counteract Blindness -50.

+20% Affects Substantial on that is 10 points, which happens to be the cost of See Invisible.

Charging "Affects Substantial" on other forms of vision-boosting advantages WOULD seem reasonable...

But if it's charged JUST on those, then this would imply that normal vision does not work for them.

H17 gives rules for Nightvision as a 0-point feature that could be useful here.

REVAMPED

  • Orcvision 5 [0]
  • Unnatural Feature [-5]
  • See Invisible [10]

Net cost: [5] (cheaper than [6] proposed)

This seems like the legal way to do it.
