The Steampunk Earth (formally Crossroads-4a) of Five Earths, All in a Row
Background[]
The Great Powers (the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the British Empire, the French Empire, the Papal States, the Russian Empire, and Scandinavian Federation) have space stations (powered by mercury boilers and storage batteries) in orbit.
Three nations have made Moon landings: Britain, Russia, and the Scandinavians. Each of them have stations in Lunar orbit, and have begun construction of mining bases.
Timeline[]
Steampunk Earth Timeline - key events:
- 1835: The anti-slavery novel The Civil War, or, the Slave-Holders' Revolt is published. Its relationship to the actual Civil Wars of Dieselpunk Earth and Infopunk Earth is like that of The Wreck of the Titan: Or, Futility to the events of the RMS Titanic.
- 1839: First Automata (aka Mechanical Man)
- 1847: Pope Pius IX dies a year later then in OTL resulting in a different succession of Popes:
- Pope Alexander IX (1847-1869 Dec 3)
- Pope Clement XV (1870 March 5th - "present")
- 1859: The first unmanned satellite launched.
- 1863: Wireless telegraphy invented
- 1868: 16th Amendment to the US Constitution is passed, requiring gradual emancipation of all slaves in US states, territories, and protectorates, with slavery to become entirely illegal in 1888. This means that the 13th through 15th amendments are very different from those of Infopunk Earth.
