This is a reality from the Steve Jackson Games forums and not part of the GURPS canon. |
It is a Q5 world where the timeline diverged in 1492 AD, when the introduction of Old World diseases into the native populations of the New World triggered the activation of latent superhuman abilities. While only one percent of the New World natives manifested superhuman abilities, it was enough to prevent the European nations from colonizing the New World.
The English under Henry VII figured out that trade was a better answer than conquest and, in 1500, invited a handful of the Lucuyan superhumans to migrate to the New World. One of the handful was a healer who saved Prince Arthur in 1502, Queen Elizabeth in 1503, and King Henry VII in 1509. Henry VII survived for another twenty years, dying in 1529, and his crown was inherited by his older son, who became King Arthur II.
The English crown encouraged the migration of New World superhuman to their shores and rewarded any Englishwoman or Englishman who married a New World superhuman. When the French attempted to take Calais in 1558, their army was destroyed by a company of English-born superhumans. The success of the English prompted the French to pursue their own breeding program.
The current year is 2020, but the Earth is TL10 and populated by superhumans, who make up 1% of the population. Superhumans helped drive the advance of technology, and the spread of humanity throughout the Sol System. Infinity is terrified by the potential spread of the superhumans from Superiority-1 should they discover paratronics, but they are too horrified by what would happen if they failed in an infiltration to attempt anything but cautious observation.
