Focuses on adventure, and the mood it produces is excitement. Well-organized civilizations are rare. This results in empty lands roamed by barbarian nomads, corrupt and decadent city-states, or the haunted ruins of earlier civilizations.
In classic sword and sorcery swordsmen tend to be the main hero with sorcerers either adversaries or mentors and patrons. In modern sword and sorcery the hero can use magic as well.
