Syntactic Magic is the most versatile and potentially the most powerful type of all forms of magic. For this reason the section on Syntactic Magic should be studied very carefully before utilizing the system.
Verbs and Nouns[]
This is a more potent form of Symbol Magic (which involves the Symbol Drawing skill) where the verb dictates what is done while the noun dictates what it is done to. "Each Word has an associated energy cost; a syntactic spell’s cost is equal to the cost of its verb plus the cost of its noun. Control spells cost an amount equal to the cost for Control plus double the cost of the noun; Transform spells cost an amount equal to the cost for Transform plus the cost for both nouns."[1]
- Nouns: Air, Animal, Body, Death, Earth, Fire, Food, Image, Light, Magic, Mind, Plant, Sound, Water
- Verbs: Communicate, Heal, Sense, Weaken, Strengthen, Move, Protect, Create, Control, Transform
Realms and Power[]
In the context of the noun-verb model "Realms are quite similar to nouns (although some define methods and effects as much as they define things), while the magician’s level of power in a Realm identifies the verbs available to him."
"Power over each Realm is a separate advantage, bought in levels. The cost per level depends on the breadth of the Realms, and on how much control each level adds."
Factors[]
- (60 points/total number of levels per Realm) per level; including unknown or unaccessible Realms.
