The phrase weapon in the way is a phrase used in GURPS Martial Arts.
It appears on page 106 within the 2nd paragraph of Holding a Foe at Bay describing the scenario which exists when knockback/knockdown doesn't result from a successful thrust/parry/obstruction.
It's unclear why these are actually necessary though, since a weapon already occupies a hex and evading it should be mandatory to walk through that hex.
