Fantasy[]
- aka Unkillable Wendigo
GURPS Fantasy 52-53 has "The Wendigo" which has some confusing elements/features:
- Unkillable 3 death allowing a creature to interact with the world via attacking with Possession then Mind control
- Mind Control's Conditioning being able to give advantages or physical disadvantages, normally it can only give mental disadvantages
- this is called "Symptoms: +10 ST, Unnatural Features: Gaunt, Glowing eyes, Long tongue, Matted hair, Sallow skin, +105%;"
- PUC added it to Possession instead as Transformative
- this is called "Symptoms: +10 ST, Unnatural Features: Gaunt, Glowing eyes, Long tongue, Matted hair, Sallow skin, +105%;"
- the seeming pointlessness of conditioning someone you already completely control indefinitely via possession... presumably to wreck their personality and body so that they would welcome the Wendigo back if it was ever exorcised.
- this is probably because exerting possession is optional, since Wendigo are stupid (IQ6), Single-Minded, Cannot Speak, Gluttonous and Loners, they could find it very difficult to get close to potential victims. By allowing the possessed victim to temporarily regain control (shaped by conditioning, of course, so they would still serve the Wendigo's interests) they could better serve the goal of murdering and cannibalism than the Wendigo in control of the body.
Horror[]
- aka Haunt Wendigo
GURPS Horror 72 has "Wendigo (Spirit Form)"
Confusing elements include:
- why applying its ST bonus to a possessed human does not require cosmic
- why applying its alternate form to a possessed human does not require cosmic
- the pointlessness in afflicting a mental disadvantage on a possessed body that ends when possession ends, when possession already overrides the mental traits of the host
Features include:
- Vulnerability as a Temporary Disadvantage on Possession (Spiritual) keep standard damage for the host body and apply extra damage from the multiplier to the spirit
- Temporary Disadvantages in general being PHYSICAL disadvantages (Bad Smell, Supernatural Features) which apply to the new body rather than the old one. Makes sense: if you left your old body behind indefinitely it wouldn't be much of a disadvantage.
